FAQ
What experience should I have before I attend the GIC?
As a general rule, we require a black belt in another system or being at least Practitioner 3 within a KMG location. We also understand that more and more people are training in a non-traditional environment like MMA or Muay Thai, so we would like the equivalent of 4 years of training.
Part 1, regardless of background, is really an assessment and evaluation process, aimed at making sure, for both our sakes, that we will be able to progress and develop within the system in a consistent way.
How long is the training?
Our General Instructor Course, or GIC, is a total of 23 days. Part 1 five days, part 2 and 3 nine days each.
Here is how they would break down:
Part 1: This part focuses on really understanding the system as a whole, not just single techniques. We will cover subjects like defending combative attacks, chokes, sticks, knife and other weapons, including gun. We understand that, for a lot of candidates this is the first exposure to the curriculum, so this part does not emphasize teaching ability and no test is administered. Instead, we will run an assessment that will highlight the candidate’s ability to retain information and learn.
Part 2: This is the core of the GIC. We will cover Practitioner 1-5 and make sure the curriculum is well understood by the candidate. This part will also include at least one day of fighting.
At the end of this part, candidates should be able to perform and explain most of the P1-5 curriculum. The training will end with a technical test and teaching test.
Part 3: The training will start with an assessment of what the candidate has retained from Part 2 and his/her level of improvement. At this point we will focus more on the Practitioner level and on Graduate 1 and Graduate 2. In order to graduate, the candidate has to reach a minimum rank of Graduate 1. In some cases, if the candidate has been training for a while in KMG, he/she might reach the Graduate level 2.
How much does the GIC cost?
Part 1: $1000
Part 2: $1250
Part 3: $1250
Do I receive any support material before, during the course?
You will receive a basic manual and, once completed the course, you will have access to the instructor area of maxkravmaga.com
What happens after I graduate?
Before attending Part 3, you will be asked to sign up with the instructor program of maxkravmaga.com
This will automatically list you as a current instructor and give you access to all support material and benefits of being an active KMG instructor. The cost will be $50 per month and will include not only the instructor area but also the Advanced Summit Training held every three months!

No. Only affiliates can utilize the full KMG brand as a part of their program. Our affiliate fee is $150 per month.
Active instructors are able to say that they graduated the KMG instructor program and will be listed on our site as active and legitimate instructors.
What are the advantages to becoming involved with the Affiliate program?
The Affiliate program is $100 per month and will give you access to support material, logos, merchandising, ability to print limited clothing line bearing KMG Affiliate logo, KMG passports/certificates and access to continuing education.
Do I get an exclusive territory if I am an Affiliate?
no.
I am part or I was part of another organization. Do I have to attend all parts?
This is a complicated question… We only accept instructors who were fully certified by : IKMA, KMWW, IKMF and IKM
The course, for these circumstances, is 9 days and $1500. The slots are very few in order to make sure we can devote the right attention to transitioning instructors.
What can I do to prepare for the GIC?
We are partners with maxkravmaga.com. This will be a great way to get on board with the training even before you come to train.
Am I guaranteed to become a certified instructor just by attending?
No
Once I graduate will I be able to be and Affiliate?
Yes and no. Affiliation is awarded after assessing the ability of the instructor to maintain and enforce the KMG standards. This means that, in most cases, there will have to be more than one instructor at that location and that any additional instructor, would have to be KMG certified as well.
What happens after the GIC?
In order to keep your active instructor status, you will have to attend at list 6 days (50 hrs) of advanced continuing education per year.
I am Law Enforcement. What is my path to becoming an instructor?
The path is clear, and sometimes unpopular. First get certified with the General Instructor Course, and then specialize in the LE sector with specialized courses. Think about the GIC like medical school. First you go to medical school and then, based on your needs, interested or aptitude, you can specialized in a particular field. We do not cut corners. If somebody else tells you that they can make you or your officers/agents proficient in DT with just one week… they are lying. Hide your wallet and run.
